The 130th Topical Symposium of the New York State Section of the American Physical Society
The 130th Topical Symposium of the New York State Section of the APS is in-person event scheduled for October 26, 2024 at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute. The theme of the symposium is advances in computational physics and the physics of computation. Computational physics is a central facilitator of physical discovery and the only broadly reliable window into non-perturbative physics at all energy scales. At the same time, computation is itself a physical process and physical reasoning is useful for understanding the limits and possibilities of new computational methods. This symposium explores the state-of-the-art at the intersection of physics and computation. Topics for talks include advances in numerical physics (algorithms and hardware), fundamental physical limits on computation (classical and quantum), and the physics of neural networks and deep learning. An awards ceremony will follow the poster presentation to celebrate the best poster at the graduate student, undergraduate student, and high-school student levels.
