Creating a supportive environment to enable scientific discourse at APS and APS Partner meetings is the responsibility of all participants.


By registering for an APS event, you are agreeing to abide by the APS Code of Conduct.

The 63rd Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Plasma Physics (DPP) will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, November 8-12, 2021. All technical sessions will be held in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The DPP headquarters hotel is The Westin Pittsburgh Hotel, located at 1000 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15222, with an indoor walkway connection to David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

  • ATTENDEE LIABILITY WAIVER, RELEASE, AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK: COVID 19

    Relating to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Attendee acknowledges the highly contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assumes the risk of exposure or infection by attending the DPP Annual Meeting, and that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, disability, and/or death to Attendee. Attendee understands that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 at the DPP Annual Meeting may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of others who may attend the event or their families, colleagues, or others with whom they may have contact. Accordingly, Attendee understands and agrees that this release includes any claims based on the actions, omissions, or negligence of the American Physical Society and the Division of Plasma Physics and their parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, officials, employees, agents, volunteers, and representatives, whether a COVID-19 infection occurs before, during, or after participation in the DPP Annual Meeting.


    In addition to all other rules and regulations relating to Attendee’s attendance at the DPP Annual Meeting, In-Person attendees agree to:


    • 1. Being fully vaccinated* against COVID-19 prior to attending the meeting with a vaccine approved by the World Health Organization (ie., Pfizer/BioNTech, Johnson and Johnson/Janssen, Moderna, AstraZeneca/Oxford, Sinopharm or Sinovac); and 

    

    • 2. Also submitting results of a negative PCR COVID Test taken within 72 hours (3 days) prior to entry into the convention center. Results will be uploaded by attendees prior to Sunday, November 7. 


    • 3.  Attestation to their vaccination status prior to the meeting by uploading vaccination card or information through a process to be established by APS.


    • 4.  Agree to comply with all COVID-related procedures that may be implemented by DPP and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, including, but not limited to, mask-wearing and social distancing requirements and restrictions on certain activities that carry higher COVID-related risk, to protect, as much as possible, the health and safety of all DFD attendees.


    *People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second shot of the Pfizer-BioNtech, Moderna, AstraZeneca/Oxford, Sinopharm, or Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine, or two weeks after the single-dose J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine.


    Attendee acknowledges and represents that Attendee’s in-person participation in the American Physical Society Division of Plasma Physics Meeting is voluntary.


    Attendee assumes all risks and accepts sole responsibility for any injury (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability, or expense, of any kind, that Attendee may experience or incur in connection with attending the American Physical Society Division of Plasma Physics Meeting.


    ON BEHALF OF ATTENDEE AND ATTENDEES’ CHILDREN, SPOUSE, LEGAL REPRESENTATIVES, AND HEIRS AND ASSIGNS, ATTENDEE HEREBY RELEASES, COVENANTS NOT TO SUE, DISCHARGES, AND HOLDS HARMLESS THE AMERICAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY (APS) AND THE DIVISION OF PLASMA PHYSICS (DPP) AND THEIR PARENTS, SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, OFFICIALS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, VOLUNTEERS, AND REPRESENTATIVES, OF AND FROM ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, INCLUDING ALL LIABILITIES, CLAIMS, ACTIONS, DAMAGES, COSTS, OR EXPENSES OF ANY KIND, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO ATTENDEE’S PARTICIPATION IN THE AMERICAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY DIVISION OF PLASMA PHYSICS MEETING.


    Attendee understands and agrees that the law of the State of Maryland will govern this Waiver, Release, and Assumption of Risk.


    By completing this registration, all In-Person Attendees acknowledge that they have carefully read and fully understand this Waiver, Release, and Assumption of Risk and knowingly assume the risks described above and waives In-Person Attendee’s rights concerning liability as described above.
